Spinal Works provides chiropractic care for hip pain and reduced range of motion in the hip.

Hip pain can be caused by a wide range of issues, including muscle or tendon strain, tendonitis, osteoarthritis, or bursitis. It can be debilitating and cause a significant reduction in hip mobility, which may worsen over time. Left untreated, hip pain can become chronic and extend into other areas, including the thighs, groin, and lower back.

Our chiropractic team at Spinal Works helps patients experiencing pain caused by pelvic misalignment. This is a common issue among athletes and among people who regularly perform repetitive twisting movements, whether that's running, jogging, and court sports, or everyday movements like climbing stairs and lifting the kids.

What causes hip pain?

Hip pain can stem from weak muscles, spinal degeneration, or problems affecting the sciatic nerve. Some of the most common causes we see and treat include:

Hip osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis in the hips is a common condition that develops and worsens with age. While most people associate osteoarthritis with ageing, it can also be brought about by a joint injury or by lifestyle factors such as carrying excess weight. Osteoarthritis in the hip causes pain and stiffness, and can make everyday activities difficult, including getting out of bed, climbing stairs, or walking. Symptoms often worsen over time when left untreated and can contribute to other issues, which is why it's important to seek treatment early.

Hip bursitis

Bursae are small, fluid-filled sacs found around bones and other tissues throughout the body. There are two bursae in each hip. Hip bursitis occurs when a bursa becomes inflamed or irritated. Hip bursitis can cause significant pain which is felt around the hip during movements such as walking, climbing stairs, getting in and out of the car, squatting, or simply moving about during your day. Hip bursitis can worsen over time when left untreated, so early treatment is important for managing pain and reducing the chance of further issues developing.

Hip tendonitis

Hip tendonitis refers to inflammation and degeneration of the tendons in the hip. It can cause stiffness, pain after activity, and discomfort as the muscles around the hip contract. Hip tendonitis is characterised by tenderness along the hip tendon, and can worsen when left untreated.

Strained muscles and injuries

Repetitive strain injuries, including sports injuries, as well as traumatic injuries, can cause significant pain in the hip area. When the hip isn't given enough time to rest and no active treatment and recovery plan is put in place, these injuries can worsen over time.
